Once your PC or laptop becomes old, you will start facing booting problems. Booting problems or dead computers will become common occurrences. There can be several reasons for that – old mechanics, maybe a problem with the windows operating system, hardware is burnt are some to name a few.

Well, this is not a problem that you should be worried about. With some technical help, you will solve this problem. The real problem will be retrieving data from a dead computer. Fortunately, there are ways to recover your data from a dead computer.

How to Recover Data from A Dead Windows PC?

If your PC is not showing any sign of life, you are at risk of losing all your data. The problem can be with your windows, drives, or operating system. No matter the problem, the bottom line is that if you do not take the right measure quickly, all your data will be lost.

Given below are the data recovery methods you can use to recover data from a dead windows PC.

Method 1: Using BIOS Utility

Most of the time, the system won’t boot due to some internal errors or corrupted files. In such cases, you can run the BIOS utility test to recover your data.

How to run a BIOS utility test for your system?

  • Start with inserting your USB drive for using the Windows Media Creation Tools.
  • Now turn on your computer.
  • When the computer shows signs of life, press F12 to start boosting your system.
  • In doing so, your system will enter automatic repair mode.
  • Now, click on Troubleshoot.
  • Select the advance option.
  • From the advance option, click Command Prompt.
  • A Black screen will appear; type exe and press Enter.
  • Now visit Notepad.
  • Select File Menu > Open.
  • Now click on the PC and select the files and folder you want to recover.
  • Once you have selected the files, recover them to the external drive.

Method 2: Reinstalling Hard Drive to Another System

If your system is not boosting and you are concerned about the data loss that can occur. Try using the hard drive of your dead PC as an external drive for another system. The following steps might help you do it effectively.

  • Take out the Hard Drive of the dead PC.
  • Use the Same Hard Drive as an external drive for another PC.
  • Use SATA TO USB Converter or External Hard Drive Enclosure.
  • Open Disc Management.
  • The System will detect the connected hard drive as RAW.
  • Assign a Drive Name/Letter to it.

Note: When you will connect the Hard Drive to the new system, the system will give you a prompt of connected to a RAW drive and will ask to format before using it. Do not format the drive. Formatting will cost all your data.

Method 3: Using Data Recovery Software

The final method in the list is to use data recovery software. When your system fails to boost, and you have zero technical knowledge to cover the first two methods mentioned above, you can always go for data recovery.

  • Connect the dead internal hard drive to healthy computer.
  • Download iBoysoft Data Recovery and install it on the healthy PC.
  • Run the tool, select the dead hard drive icon and click from the main screen.
  • Then select the internal hard drive icon and click “Next”. The software starts to analyse the selected drive partition and find all lost files.
  • After scanning, you can double click the files to preview the found file.
  • Save the recovered files to a location of the computer drive using the “Recover” option
